🍷 The Wines of Cape Point Vineyards

The Sauvignon Blanc varieties

This image shows three bottles of Sauvignon Blanc on a wooden table. By D.Koen

The unique location of Cape Point Vineyards means it is ideal for producing Sauvignon Blanc.

The cool sea breezes from the nearby Atlantic Ocean combined with the rich ancient mountain soils creates a one-of-a-kind environment with a late growing season, perfect for complex flavours.

Cape Point Vineyards focuses on creating this popular white wine, and they are known for their four distinct styles that showcase the complexity of the Sauvignon Blanc grape.

Why Is the Cool Sea Climate So Great for Sauvignon Blanc?

These wines are typically high in acidity and can be quite dry. The cooler climate helps to preserve these distinct qualities

Cooler climates also allow grapes to develop on the vine for longer, meaning that the wines typically have richer flavours.

🔸 2022 Harvest

The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc is the estate’s signature wine and showcases a flavourful palate.

The bold aromas of nectarines, passion fruit, gooseberries, and fig creates a well-balanced flavour profile that is light and refreshing. Hints of oak spice add an extra layer of depth, adding to the complexity of the wine.

This Sauvignon Blanc was a finalist in the People’s Choice Drinks Awards in 2023, showing its popularity among wine enthusiasts.

The wine is light enough to enjoy on its own, but the elaborate combination of flavours also means that it pairs nicely with a variety of foods.

Pairs Well With: White cheeses, pasta, poultry, fish, pesto, and vegetables like tomatoes

🔸 Noordhoek

This image is a close-up of the Noordhoek Sauvignon Blanc bottle and label. By D.Koen

This variation has a refreshing coastal style that combines elements of white grapefruit and floral fynbos unique to the Cape.

Grapes are hand-picked to ensure only the best parcels are included in the wine-making process.

It has a refreshing flavour layered with fruity aromas and Cape Point Vineyard’s iconic natural acidity that allows it to linger on the palate.

The wine is released at its optimal drinking point, so enjoying it soon after purchasing it is recommended to get the most out of the flavour.

Because of its lightweight taste, this wine is easy enough to drink on its own or share with friends

Pairs well With: Seafood like grilled sole or kingklip, sushi, and green vegetables.

🔸 Reserve

The Reserve Sauvignon Blanc is a unique representation of the estate’s location, containing hints of floral spice, cardamom, and white pepper.

Grapes are selected from three sea-facing vineyards where the fresh breeze gives the wine a distinct and rich minerality.

The wine has a lovely fruity profile that showcases lemon, tangerine, and ripe nectarines that combine beautifully with elements from the coastal setting.

As it develops, flavours of perfumed spring blossoms and subtle hints of oak emerge and add to the complexity.

This award-winning wine received five stars for Platter’s Guide and won a gold medal at the South African Wine in London competition in 2022.

Pairs Well With: Sushi and sashimi, seafood-based steamed and fried dim sum and smoked salmon.

🔸 Isliedh 2020

This image is a close-up of the Isliedh Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon blend. By D.Koen

The Isliedh 2020 is a remarkable blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, creating a beautiful and complex wine.

It was named after the estate owner’s grandchild, giving it a sentimental feel too.

The wine offers a unique flavour profile: aromatic floral notes, ripe nectarine, and pink grapefruit. Hints of oak spice combine with fresh thyme to give the wine extra depth.

The palate is rich and smooth, with a bold flavour that will leave a lasting impression.

This blend is also popular among many Sauvignon Blanc enthusiasts, winning awards like five stars for Platter’s Guide in 2022 and Best of South Africa from the Tim Atkin report.

Pairs Well With: Seafood such as steamed crab with lemongrass, fish curry, and other aromatic dishes.
